Not much to say about running today. I did my four miles this morning in the slush, which was messy. But, it was a beautiful day and got me back on track so it made it worth it. I also got the laundry done, the house cleaned, and things put away, and for that, it felt like a completely successful day.
But, in giant excitement, the hotel is booked and the plane tickets are purchased so this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING! It's not like I wasn't expecting this to actually happen, but now that it is, I'm super-duper excited about it! I'm also excited to go to Florida in February. There's something about seeing palm trees in the winter that makes everything better.
In other news, lately I've been craving cookies. And by craving cookies, I mean, ALL I WANT TO EAT IS COOKIES. I think this is an integral part of my training, if you ask me.

Glad you are back on track :) I sooooo would have traded you today. I had 100 minutes of interval/speedwork on the treadmill today and wasn't sure I'd still be breathing when I was done! What I learned today: my treadmill stops at 100 minutes. That's OK, I was done, really done...lol
ReplyDeleteAll plans have been layed/laid (hmmm...I told you I nearly died on the treadmill this morning) - it's gonna happen!!! I wonder how warm it will be? Do you have sunscreen? Hardly being able to move after running a 1/2 marathon is one thing but being burnt to a crisp and not being able to move is another. Enjoy all the excitement, you earned it!
I don't know what to say about the cookies other than the Girlscouts will be thrilled as they just started selling them in my area :)
GO GIRL! 100 minutes of speedwork is INTENSE! Glad to hear you now know the limits of your treadmill too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been keeping an eye on the weather in Florida -- anywhere between 50s to low 70s so I'm hoping for the 50s (then again, at 5:45 a.m., if it's 70 degrees, just tell me to forget about it!).
I was hoping to get a run in tonight, but the roads are super crummy here (and it's still coming down!) so it'll be five miles on a treadmill tomorrow and another run on Thursday.
What sort of speedwork do you follow? I'm having a hard time finding a program I love.
I hate speedwork & usually just don't even bother because I hate it so much. I'm giving it another shot. I run slow & going faster kills me so I walk on the recovery part of the intervals. It wasn't pretty. I don't hold on when running on the treadmill but I did on these fast parts! I said I was hanging on for dear life, white knuckled like I was on a roller coaster ride with thoughts of me flying off the back!!! I am sore today!
ReplyDeleteI'm following the program in the "Run Less, Run Faster" book right now. There is another plan "Yasso 800's" that I read about in Runner's World Complete Book of Running. You do 800 meter repeats. If you wanted to run a marathon in 4 hrs 30 minutes then you aim to run the 800 in 4 minutes 30 seconds (just figure out what your goal is & run the 800's to match). You start your 1st speedwork with 4, 800 meter repeats at your target time & you do a recovery jog for the same amount of time it took you to do the 800 (4 minutes 30 seconds for the above example). You do this once a week and each week you add one more 800 repeat until you do 10, 800 meter repeats & this should be completed before your last 3 weeks of training. They have tested this method & say it holds pretty true but I have not tried it yet. I may switch to this at some point if what I'm following is too hard for me. It's also pretty easy to do inside or out.
I hope for 50's for your race too. That's about a perfect temperature. 70's would be tougher. You have done all this training & you can do it but you might have to slow down. You've put in the hard work, now you just have to see it through & go get your Princess Medal...wooohooo!!!
I switched up my training schedule this week due to an early morning meeting. My next run will be Thursday so I have no idea what the weather has in mind or if I'll get to go outside or back on the treadmill. Good luck on yours :)
P.S.
If you happen upon a speedwork progam that you "love" please be sure to share...lol.
Ugh, I will keep you posted if I find some sort of speedwork I'm sold on. Today I just kept doing mini-sprints on the treadmill today and hoped for the best.
ReplyDeleteI hope the weather is nice for you tomorrow! I'm slightly concerned about my weekend runs -- Saturday afternoon looks decent, so we'll see!
My boss has several marathons under her belt & I think she does the sprinting like you mentioned. I honestly don't think there's any way to "like" it :( I think you just do it or you don't. *I could be wrong* I'm way too old to ever be fast but I can still play! My only hope at winning anything would be winning my age group if I happen to still be running when I'm 90, the oldest person there & can drag acrossed the finish line...lol.
ReplyDeleteI have a 7 miler tomorrow. The temp isn't terrible but the wind might make me choose the treadmill. 9 miles for me this weekend. Hope for a little heat & some decent weather for us both!
Ha! I placed third, ONCE, in my age group! I think there were only 10 or 12 people in the 25-29 group, though, so most likely it'll be the only time I ever get a place medal. But, if I'm over 70 and running, there's still a chance!
ReplyDeleteHope your 7 miles goes well today! I have to do three after school and then 7 on Saturday. My loooooong run is coming up, and I REFUSE to do it on a treadmill, so the weather better start to turn!
Congrats on your 3rd! I forgot about it, I got 2nd in my age group at a 10K but there were only 4 in my category...lol. At least you had a lot more contenders to beat.
ReplyDelete7 absolute terrible miles done today :( Started on the treadmill, 1.5, too hot, changed, ran outside 1.7, wind was brutal so back on the treadmill. I'm sore & I think everything hurts but hey, that happens sometimes. They won't all be good runs.
