Running my life as a busy wife, boy mom, and business owner

A blog about health

Health  is a funny thing. I think, for the most part, it's something we all take for granted until it's gone.

Case in point, I'm under the weather this week. (Side note: Where did that phrase come from? And why?) I'm not feeling like myself, and it's a reminder of how lucky I was to be healthy my entire training for the Princess Half. Anyway, thanks to medications and, hopefully, some extra sleep, I'll be back on track in no time.

Today, I was talking to Dan about going to the doctor. We talked about how sometimes people (read: men) don't go to the doctor, even if they're sick.

I suppose that's one of the blessings in disguise about being diagnosed with a chronic illness so young. You know when something is wrong in your body and you know that you can't necessarily fix it on your own. I'm certainly not a hypochondriac, but I know when things aren't right. And as much as I hate meds, they're far better than the alternative of suffering through illness.

And, again, I'm the most boring blogger ever. EV-ER.

  1. You are so right. We do take our health for granted. In 2003 I was in a car accident which left me a disaster for 3 long years. My neck was a mess, a tear in my hip/knee/shoulder, chronic pain and I could not do any exercise without increasing my pain. I'll never be 100% but I am sooo much better & now I can exercise & have a life. I felt lucky to be alive & that is when I started telling people to go after your dreams. Don't wait for retirement - you may never see it. We wait for so much when we should do it now because we are not guaranteed tomorrow. We are not guaranteed what kind of health shape we will be in 10-20 years from now either.

Bottom line, go to the doc, get your checkups & try to take care of yourself. If you don't, you might not like where you end up.

Not boring! I stalk your blog everyday you know...lol

  2. I couldn't agree more! There's nothing wrong with paying attention to your health. I'm a firm believer that half the battle is getting enough sleep and keeping the stress level low. (Again, sometimes I don't take this advice, but still!)

  4. Okay, lady, did you get on the phone to schedule your yearly appointments? I'm with you -- I hate waiting/taking the time off work too (it's just easier to be there, isn't it?)! But I'll keep bugging you 'til you do it... :)

Survived the run! Did a run/walk and felt pretty good at the end. I could've kept going and I haven't felt that way in a long time!

    Reminder: call the doctor! :)
