Running my life as a busy wife, boy mom, and business owner

Cheers to a new beginning!

It's a brand new year! I love the start of a new year because it brings so many opportunities to start fresh. This is the time to make changes, to achieve goals, and to go on new adventures.

We're starting the year off on a healthy foot today. Thanks to my pregnancy, I woke up feeling fabulous after an alcohol-free New Year's Eve with friends, and we started the morning with my favorite recipe for protein shakes. They're easy, simple, and delicious, as they taste more like a milkshake than anything else!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie
Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 medium sized banana
  • 1 scoop protein powder (I prefer vanilla)
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 or more heaping handful(s) fresh baby spinach
  • 1 tbsp. natural peanut butter
Combing all ingredients in a blender (I actually add them in this order with ice cubes on the bottom and spinach and peanut butter on the top -- it does a better job of liquefying the ice cubes this way).

Today I also plan to get in a great workout in two ways. First, I'm SO excited to start covering #TheNewJazzercise campaign that rolls out today! Jazzercise is completely reinventing itself, and it's an exciting time to get in on the changes!
I think 2015 is going to be a fabulous year for the business, and I'm excited to learn some new routines today (and set up my last four sets as an instructor before maternity leave!).

I also want to try this awesome Pop Sugar Body-Weight workout. I LOVE workouts like this because you can literally do them anywhere - no equipment required! This workout would be perfect for travel or days when you can't make it to the gym (but still have time to watch TV at night -- pick a 30-minute sitcom to complete this workout!).

I haven't set any specific New Year's resolutions this year, but I'm planning to focus on learning how to be a great mom, organizing our home and getting rid of items we don't need, and focusing on living in the moment as opposed to always looking ahead to what's next. I think this will be a recipe for success and lead to a great new beginning with our newest family member!

What are your resolutions or goals for 2015? Are you working on anything specific?

Here's to the very best year yet! Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2015!

  1. Banana always seems to overwhelm the other flavors in my smoothie. Do you have this problem ever?

    1. Hmm... I haven't noticed this as much, but that might be because I usually drown it in other flavors (and I think the protein powder I use gives it a nice flavor too!). What do you usually mix with it? I would cut the ratio of banana to other items -- half a banana in this one, maybe, or adding additional strawberries in a strawberry banana smoothie? I'll play around with it!
