MARIAH CAREY - UGLY WEDDING DRESS
I mean... Mariah did it...
Now that we're a month and a half into planning our wedding, Dan and I are learning the ins and outs of wedding planning. We struggled to find a date (June! May 31! May 10!). We struggled to find a venue (booked, booked this morning, maybe booked, available!). And while we're having some luck (the best wedding photographer EVER, and gorgeous floral designs), I'm learning that, generally speaking, this might be harder than I first thought.

Dan, perhaps inundated with my... enthusiasm for wedding planning while I'm on summer vacation, and I were talking last week, and decided we'd dedicate Wednesdays and weekends to most of the planning. Appointments, major decisions, planning, etc. could be done then, so as to not totally fill up our week with insanity.

Yesterday was my very first time shopping for a bridal gown. I've been with friends before, and looked online, but never before had I stepped into a gown. I've watched all of the TLC wedding shows for an obscenely long amount of time. But when it actually came down to it, I realized something:

I have absolutely no idea what I want in a wedding dress.

I thought I knew what I wanted. Not strapless. Not mermaid. Not tight on the hips. Not a million dollars. Even after trying on 20ish dresses, with the exception of the not a million dollars thing, I still don't really know what I want.

I found a dress, or maybe even two dresses, that are totally beautiful. But I didn't have that THIS IS IT moment that I was hoping I'd have. I was waiting for the AHA, the emotional reaction, the tears, and it didn't happen. I went to bed questioning the dress, and woke up questioning the dress even more. And while I like the line and LOVE the boutique, I think I need to look again.

Sigh. I know it's out there. And I know I just have to keep looking. But I was sincerely hoping I'd find it on the first go around.

Any advice for dress shopping?

  1. Ok so I thought I wrote this earlier this morning but I guess it did not post - must have been too early for me ;)...Anyways, what I wanted to say was this: If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you should check out Becker's Bridal in Fowler, MI. It looks quite small from the outside but has an AMAZING selection of dresses and the consultants are great. That is where I found my dress. Well, that is where I found the style of my dress and then I just shopped around online for the best price :). Also, don't worry about not having tears or an AHA moment. I didn't. It was more of a "Yeah, I think this might be my dress" moment than anything! I think the media hypes it up so much that it is actually a bit of a let down if it doesn't go that way - but do NOT worry. You will find your dress. If you need some suggestions, let me know! I'm happy to look around for you :) Miss you dear, let's facetime soon!!!!! xoxo, Abs

  2. Definitely good to know! I'm heading back to the store on Saturday, and if I don't find anything there, I'll probably look elsewhere (thanks for the tip on Becker's Bridal!)!

We booked our hotel room for your wedding! EEEEK!

    1. Yay! I saw that you bought your dress - you MUST send me pics, or at least a link to it :) BTW, LOVED your engagement shots, so much fun! They made me jealous that mine weren't as good haha! Which hotel did you book for our wedding? I absolutely cannot wait to see you and meet Dan! Will you be in just the day of the wedding or are you making a weekend of it?

    2. I'll send you the link on Facebook! I haven't put pictures on my computer because I'm scared Dan will see them!

We booked at the Holiday Inn -- soooo excited! We'll come up Saturday morning and stay through Sunday morning-ish! I cannot wait to see you in your dress!
