Running my life as a busy wife, boy mom, and business owner

When one door closes...

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

This has been a weird week. I've been reminded how wonderful my life is and how I really have so little to complain about. I'm also reminded (and, perhaps clinging to the idea) when one door closes, another one opens. This has been so true in my own life. When I got laid off from my first teaching job, the Journalism position at LPHS opened up. When I fell out of touch with a friend, something came along to restore our communication. When I lost a sour relationship, a huge and wonderful window opened, allowing Dan to come in to my life. And when my long running freelance gig went away, another one came onto the horizon (I mean, that's pending... stay tuned!!!).

I hate to be trite, but life works in mysterious ways. I think there are so many times when a door closes and it takes years to understand why. Sometimes, I don't know if we ever fully understand.

If you're the praying kind, I ask you to pray for my friend Michelle and her husband Josh. They are going through a terrible time right now after losing their baby 16 weeks into her pregnancy. I can't get them off my mind and know many people have been sending up prayers for strength, peace, and healing for them. But, the more prayers, the better!

  1. We all need to be thankful for what we do have:) I think each life has a plan. While I sometimes don't like what's going on in my "life plan" I do believe there is a reason for it.

Sending up prayers for your friends...so sorry to hear what happened. Big hugs :)

  2. I totally agree with you. There's a reason for everything... sometimes, I just don't understand why!

Hope you had a good weekend! We were at a wedding yesterday and I had a grad party today. It's always nice when there's lots of celebrating going on (although, that means lots of cake and not so much running! Oh well!)!

  3. It is nice (sometimes) when you can look back & see why :)

I think we are clear of parties for a few months so I should be safe. I love cake...buttercream frosting...YUM! Today I'm being good - so far. Doing my Weight Watcher thing. It's only four days til surgery. Who knows what will happen as the stress/anxiety level increases???

  4. You can do it! And surgery will go smoothly and everything will be fine! I hate LOTS of faith in that!

How'd your 13 miler go? SO proud of you for getting up and doing it today! Dan and I are heading out of town for a few days this week. I'm hoping to get in a couple long runs around the lake! :)

  5. I'm pretty sure the surgery will go smoothly. It's the waking up after anesthesia & the pain & feeling yucky I'm not looking forward to :( I'm not a pain med kind of girl but sometimes ya just gotta have some!

13 miler was OK... long, hot, tired & hungry but I got it done.

Have a great time away. Long runs along the lake sound really nice. Beautiful view & probably a breeze to boot :)

When do you go back to classes? Seems like it's flying by really fast so ENJOY all you can!!!

  6. The surgery will go smoothly, but I'll say some extra prayers for added protection. :)And I agree -- I'm not into taking meds if I don't have to, but sometimes it's totally worth it!

I think it's INCREDIBLE that you're keeping up with your training in this heat! Go girl! I've decided I'm not timing myself at all this weekend. I'm just running for fun!

School starts three weeks from today (the kids come three weeks from tomorrow!)! I cannot believe how fast this summer has gone, but I'm planning to enjoy every minute I have left!

  7. Thanks so much!

Well, when you are psychotic & sign up for all these races you have no choice but to continue training...lol! Not timing yourself should be totally stress free :)

Wow...it has really flown by. My kids are grown but I wish they still started the day after Labor Day. I guess it just seems so short to me. And, it was tradition when I was a kid!

    Enjoy all you can!!!
